An appraisal of Brushing for Life by Professor A S Blinkhorn (University of Manchester) considers the government initiative to reduce the inequalities in children’s oral health in the most disadvantaged areas of the country. The scheme started in 2001, and provides children in areas with highest levels of dental decay a free pack of fluoride toothpaste and a toothbrush – supported by advice on oral hygiene.
