Warning on drink danger – Liverpool Echo 18th October 2008
MORE than 85% of women in the region don’t realise that drinking alcohol is linked with an increased risk of breast cancer.
According to the General Household Survey by the Know Your Limits campaign, about 20% of women across the UK drink more than the NHS recommended daily limit of two to three units of alcohol, equivalent to one large glass of wine a day (250ml at ABV 12%).

STAFF at Liverpool Women’s Hospital are being encouraged to eat more healthily.
A hospital spokesperson said doctors and nurses are not always the healthiest eaters.

LIVERPOOL residents have among the dirtiest hands in England, according to new research.
And researchers blame the filth on a lack of hand washing after people answer calls of nature.

A PIONEERING new website giving vital information to the public on mental health services in Cheshire and Wirral has been launched.
Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) launched www.cwp.nhs.uk to provide people with information about CWP mental health, learning disabilities and drug and alcohol services.

Child porn 999 man struck off – Liverpool Echo 17th October 2008
A MERSEYSIDE paramedic jailed for making nearly 2,000 indecent images of a child has been struck off.
Gerard Lawlor, 54, of Brandon Park Court, Southport, was jailed for 10 months after pleading guilty to making 1,920 indecent images of a child.

Liverpool needs to be more active – Liverpool Daily Post 17th October 2008
Recent research has shown that in Liverpool only 18% of adults are active enough to benefit their health. This is allied to the fact that only 1 in 3 boys and 1 in 5 girls aged 9-11 are achieving the target for children of at least one hour of physical activity per day. If present trends in Liverpool continue then it is projected that by 2020 nearly one third of the population will be seriously overweight.

Angina team pioneers – Liverpool Echo 17th October 2008
THE pioneering work of a Liverpool health centre to combat an extreme form of angina should be spread across the country.
Knowsley North MP George Howarth praised Broadgreen hospital’s award-winning National Refractory Angina Centre (NRAC) during a parliamentary debate yesterday.

A DISGRACED Southport paramedic jailed for taking almost 2,000 indecent photos of a child has been struck off.
Health Professions Council made the decision to strike Gerard Lawlor, 54, from the register.

SOUTHPORT Hospital is leading Merseyside in the fight against knife crime by becoming the first in the county to use a ‘knife arch’ at its A&E unit.
The move is also thought to be a national first, with police and hospital bosses working together to crackdown on violence against staff.
