Waiting list for dentists cut – Lancashire Telegraph 28th November 2008

Waiting lists for NHS dentists in Wyre and Fylde have reduced by 95 per cent in the last year.

NHS North Lancashire say they have cut the back log of people waiting to access an NHS Dentist from 6,000 people to less than 300 over a 12 month period.

East Lancashire hospitals’ £2m overspend after bed shortage – Lancashire Telegraph 28th November 2008

HOSPITAL bosses have warned they may have to make cutbacks after attempts to solve bed shortages resulted in a £2million black hole in their accounts.

Finance director Stephen Brookfield said “extreme measures” will have to be taken to pay the bills for Burnley’s new £1 million temporary theatre, and for overspends in October of another £1million.

Crackdown on booze culture in Blackburn and Darwen – Lancashire Telegraph 27th November 2008

HEALTH and council leaders in Blackburn and Darwen have pledged to crackdown on the borough’s unhealthy drinking culture.

The vow comes after the Big Drink debate, the North West’s biggest ever survey on alcohol, which revealed that more than a quarter of people in the region drink at harmful and hazardous levels.

New TV adverts target smokers – Lancashire Telegraph 27th November 2008

A NEW TV advertising campaign could help reduce Bury’s alarming toll of six deaths a week from smoking-releated diseases.

Timed to air in the early evening when both parents and their children are most likely to be watching together, the adverts will hopefully trigger discussion and motivate parents to use local NHS Stop Smoking Services.

East Lancashire hospital chief blasts critical GPs – Lancashire Telegraph 27th November 2008

EAST Lancashire’s hospital boss has told the GP who criticised her under fire A&E department: You’re bang out of order.

And Marie Burnham said GPs had put extra pressure on services by sending too many patients their way — and called on community health trusts to stump up more cash to ease bed shortages.
