LIVERPOOL health chiefs today unveiled £8m plans to recruit an army of trainers to wage war on obesity and poor health.
Liverpool Primary Care Trust is extending its Health Trainers and Community Health Ambassador Team (CHAT) programmes.
The new contract will extend and combine the current services being provided across the city and is worth £8m over the next three years.
Warrington and Halton hospitals gain foundation trust status – Liverpool Echo 1st December 2008
TWO hospitals have gained foundation trust status two years after financial troubles.
Warrington and Halton general hospitals have turned their fortunes around to gain the title.
The North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust will now become Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Robert Gregory, 59, has suffered from Alkaptonuria, often known as Black Bone Disease, since birth.

SOCIAL enterprise company Local Solutions has secured a contract to provide a Telecare home response service for older people in Liverpool.
Working in conjunction with Liverpool council and Liverpool Direct Ltd, the service will provide assistance to people who need care in their own homes.

A GROUP of Merseyside MPs added their support to a campaign to protect children and young people from the harmful effects of smoking.

Shock as 5,000 NHS medical records go missing – Liverpool Echo 28th Novmeber 2008
THE medical records of at least 5,000 north west NHS patients have been lost or stolen.
In one case, a memory stick containing personal details of 4,000 people went missing.
And in other cases uncovered during 2006-07 across the region, including Merseyside, GP backup records, files stored on PCs and computer hard drives, and paper records were stolen, and lost files were found on a skip.

TWO grieving sisters have vowed to hold the NHS to account after an inquest heard how their brother was found hanging from a tree in Chester.
Mark Brocklehurst, from Newton, was reported missing by his family on June 25 when they returned from a holiday to Spain.
Figures show increase in HIV patient numbers in North West – Ormskirk Advertiser 27th November 2008
LATEST statistics reveal there has been a 10% increase in people needing HIV care in the North West.
The figures, from the Health Protection Agency, show that in 2007, some 584 people were newly diagnosed with the virus in the region.
ORMSKIRK’S hospital trust paid out more than £4million in medical negligence pay-outs last year – more than 60% up on the previous 12 months.
According to figures released by the Department of Health, the bill for blunders such as wrong diagnosis, botched surgery and delays during childbirth at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust reached £4.02m.
THE new £41m college in Skelmersdale town centre could include health facilities.
Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College has taken a step towards creating the campus on Northway by submitting a planning application to West Lancashire District Council.
