ENGLAND’S chief nursing officer Chris Beasley will be setting out her vision for the future of nursing at NHS Cumbria’s first Bringing Nursing Closer to Home conference, at the Rheged Centre, in January.
Up to 260 delegates from the nursing and related healthcare professions are expected to attend the full-day conference, which will also feature an inspirational speech from Falklands war veteran Simon Weston.

HELP could be at hand for people struggling to cope with long-term illness.
The Expert Patient Programme has been run throughout Cumbria since 2005 by trained volunteer tutors who have personal experience of living with a long-term health condition.
The courses, run over six weeks, teach self-management techniques for managing pain and fatigue and relaxation and distraction techniques.

ALMOST three quarters of Cumbrian pensioners are now protected against the flu virus as cases in the region grow to worrying levels.
Health chiefs in the North West are warning of a stark rise in flu cases this year and are urging people, particularly the elderly, to take extra care over Christmas.
