Bringing hope to Aids orphans – Manchester Evening News 5th January 2009

A COUPLE who visited Kenya for a holiday have gone back to Africa to open a care home for young Aids orphans.

Kevin and Mary Maguire first visited eight years ago for Kevin’s 40th birthday.

They were so touched by the plight of dozens of children orphaned by the epidemic that they pledged to help them.

Cabbies fined over guide dog – Manchester Evening News 3rd January 2009

TWO taxi drivers have been prosecuted for refusing to carry a blind person with their guide dog.

Talib Hussain, 51, of Chevron Close, Marland, Rochdale, was fined £125 and Mohammed Idress, 37, of Bolton Road, Sudden, was fined £100 at Rochdale Magistrates’ Court.

The pair, who both drive Hackney cabs, were also ordered to pay £128 costs for refusing to take the blind passenger and the dog from a rank on Station Road, Rochdale.

Health project grants offer – The Bolton News 3rd January 2009

VOLUNTARY groups are being encouraged to apply for grants to promote health issues.

Bolton NHS Primary Care Trust is offering funding of up to £500 to groups who want to develop projects which keep people active and healthy.
